Singapore’s industry players in the business events sector were recognised this week at the second Singapore Business Events Awards.
An initiative of the Singapore Exhibition and Convention Bureau, a group of the Singapore Tourism Board, the awards recognise the contributions of the business events industry in enhancing Singapore’s standing as a premier business events or MICE destination.
Among the top awards, Meeting of the Year went to World Vision International Triennial Council; Convention of the Year went to Singapore Maritime Week 2007 and Exhibition of the Year went to CommunicAsia2007.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry, S Iswaran said Singapore was recently ranked the world’s Top International Meeting City for the first time by the Union of International Associations (UIA).
Singapore was also ranked Asia’s top city for meetings for the 25th consecutive year and Asia’s top country for meetings in the same report.
Business Travel and MICE is a key driver of Singapore’s tourism industry.
Last year BTMICE visitors constituted about 30% or close to three million of total visitor arrivals.
