An hour earlier, Boeing chairman James McInerney opened what he called “family day” for employees of Boeing and its more than 70 supply chain partners, noting that every generation brings with it advancements in commercial aviation.
He said the Dreamliner was inspired by “our customers and their customers,” adding that the project was influenced by international passengers and took into account various cultures.
He handed the microphone to the Dreamliner premiere MC and former NBC News anchor, Tom Brokaw, who called the new aircraft “the rock star of the future.” He pointed to the “key ingredients, the electronics and avionics of the 787,” which would safely and efficiently transport passengers.
Brokaw highlighted customer research in delivering “what people want” when “redefining the passenger experience.” He said the hew interior would “change the way people fly,” and “make flying fun” by “bringing back the magic to air travel.”
Boeing commercial ceo Scott Carson took the stage to continue the “bring back the magic of flight” theme. He discussed how the 787 was 20% more fuel efficient and much quieter.
Carson also shared his first flight experience as a 16-year-old onboard a “very slow Airbus.”
787 programme vp Mike Bair then stepped up to unveil the Dreamliner, and in a backdrop of generic launch music and strobes, the new jet was rolled out to the cheers of those who took part in its birth and await its maiden flight.
