Bombardier has delayed the first flight of its new CSeries aircraft once again, but said it remains happy with the progress of the project.
The new fuel-efficient regional jet is now expected to take to the skies “in the coming weeks”, according to the Canadian planemaker, which said that the “highly technical last steps are taking more time than initially anticipated” to complete.
“While the process has taken more time than we had expected, we are pleased with the results and are very comfortable taking more time to ensure the required integration is finalised and the CSeries aircraft is cleared for its first flight,” said Mike Arcamone, president of Bombardier Commercial Aircraft.
The CSeries is a new series of narrow-body, medium-range jets carrying between 100 and 150 passengers. To date, Bombardier has received firm orders for 177 CSeries aircraft. The aircraft is expected to enter service in June 2014.
