Brits eye Euro summer sojourn as sterling rides high

Global flight provider has reported a 91 per cent increase in flight bookings to top European summer holiday destinations since the beginning of February 2015, in comparison to the same period in 2014.

With the sterling at a nine-year high against the Euro, Brits are heading to the continent for summer 2015 where their money will go significantly further for the first time in years.

Spain in particular is showing a 98 per cent increase in flight bookings for February and March to date year on year as the UK heads to popular destinations including the Costa Brava, the Canary Islands and the Costa del Sol.

Portugal is also proving a great value holiday destination for summer 2015 showing a 72 per cent increase year on year with flight bookings to Greece from the UK increasing by 59 per cent.

“British holidaymakers planning their summer getaways are in for a treat this year thanks to the strength of the pound, with European breaks offering great value for money unlike any other time in recent years,” said Peter Grover, managing director, CheapOair UK.

“Brits can save more than usual in 2015 whilst still enjoying the traditional summer break and even afford to splurge, safe in the knowledge that they are getting more bang for their buck.”

Figures from Travelex reveal that holidaymakers planning to spend £500 on a holiday to Europe would now receive 680 euros compared to 589 euros this time last year.
