A survey of more than 1,000 English football fans has found that 23% of respondents have postponed their summer holiday to watch the country play during Euro 2016, with a further one in three (34%) admitting to considering putting off their time in the sun.
The survey conducted by holiday comparison website icelolly.com has revealed just how committed football fans are to the upcoming tournament.
The anticipation for Roy Hodgson’s team to do well during the tournament spreads right across the UK, with the highest percentage (37%) of fans who have put off their summer break to keep up to date with England’s Euros antics found in Scotland.
This passion for sports is not exclusive to the England Euro 2016 team. Almost a quarter (24%) stated they have postponed their summer holiday to be at home to watch a sporting event of any kind.
The Euros appear to have played a major role in many holiday bookings this summer, as 44% of football fans admitted to comparing the dates of England’s Euro games against the date of their holiday, rising to over half (55%) in South East England.
Those who have decided to stick with their summer holiday plans will no doubt be on the hunt for the nearest sports bar, with 86% of football fans admitting to giving up valuable tanning time to watch football whilst on holiday.
