Brno ranks 5th in top European destinations for 2026

Brno has been named the fifth most attractive European destination for 2026 by 1000thingsmagazine.com, highlighting the city's growing reputation as a cultural and gastronomic hotspot. This accolade not only elevates Brno's profile but also enhances the visibility of the South Moravian Region, attracting both domestic and international tourists.

The South Moravian Region, already a popular destination in the Czech Republic, welcomed 2.2 million tourists last year, with 736,000 being foreign visitors. From January to September 2025, the region saw 1.78 million visitors, including 611,000 international guests. Brno itself attracted over one million travellers last year, with nearly half being foreign, and continues to draw significant numbers this year.

František Reismüller, Director of the Czech Tourism Authority, noted that Brno's inclusion in the MICHELIN Guide Czech Republic, despite not receiving a Michelin star, underscores its status as a gastronomic centre. Several local establishments were recognised in the MICHELIN-recommended and Bib Gourmand categories, signalling top-quality dining experiences.

The region's appeal is further enhanced by its cultural heritage, nature, and wine offerings. Martina Grůzová, Director of the South Moravia Tourism Authority, emphasised the area's popularity with cyclists, its UNESCO sites, and its growing reputation for MICE tourism.

Markéta Valenta, Director of the CzechTourism Foreign Office for Austria and Switzerland, highlighted Brno's strong reputation in Austria and the potential for increased tourism. The magazine praised Brno's iconic sites and vibrant atmosphere, describing it as a "young, lively, and stylish city."
