Business Travel Coalition (BTC) has supported calls for a less aggressive approach to passenger profiling in the USA. The association has claimed that the ‘aggressive’ pat-down procedures and full-body scanners have shown a flaw in US airport security regulations, calling them ineffective and costly. “Few airline, travel and security industry experts would quarrel with the observation of many of the traveling public that treating all passengers as equal threats to the aviation system is counterproductive and wasteful,” said Kevin Mitchell chairman of BTC. “‘There Must Be A Better Way’ has become the new mantra; the Trusted Traveler program has once again been identified as the preferred strategy”. BTC has already met with ACTE and spoken to the American Society of Travel Agents to generate support. They have asked for tighter criminal background checks and a government-run security budget to standardise screening.
