The Business Travel Coalition in the US has called on its members to support the UK travel industry in fighting against APD rises. In a letter to colleagues, Kevin Mitchell, chairman of the BTC, said that it backed ABTA and its Scottish counterpart in showing the negative impact of the APD rises. “Our friends in the UK travel industry urgently need our help in fighting an Air Passenger Duty,” said Mitchell in a letter to BTC members. “This tax is choking demand for meetings, incentive trips, business conventions and tourism to the UK and also reducing outbound UK travel and tourism to foreign destinations.” He said that travel managers and TMCs owed the UK industry a favour and should work to ‘preserve the affordability of the UK’, as well as boost tourism in the US.
