Hogg Robinson Group (HRG) has urged businesses to ‘think carefully’ about whether they will need to be in London during the Olympic Games following a lack of hotel space in the city. The travel management company has raised concerns at limited rooms available for business travel during July and August next year. Although business travel is traditionally quieter during the summer months, HRG has anticipated that as little as 12,000 to 18,000 London rooms will be available for the general marketplace. As a result the TMC has implemented its Olympics strategy now, a year ahead of the games, and encouraged clients to consider out of town accommodation or medium to long stay apartment rental. “It is important to recognise that the games may present our corporate clients with unusual circumstances when it comes to planning travel,” explained Ian Windsor, managing director at HRG UK. “An event as large and complex as the Olympic Games requires a huge amount of careful, advance planning. This is the approach we are adopting too.” HRG also warned that inbound flights to the UK could be restricted as overseas visitors come in for the games.
