The Thai navy has asked the country’s government to help upgrade facilities at U-Tapao airport, near Pattaya, after the role the military hub played during the closure of Bangkok’s airport last year.
The Bangkok Post reported that the navy is seeking a budget of THB995 million (US$28 million), to build new aircraft parking facilities and a passenger terminal to double the airport’s capacity, as well as launching a campaign invite airlines to use the airport.
