Cambodia to host Miss Landmine beauty pageant

Cambodia will play host next year to Miss Landmine, the controversial Miss Landmine Angola 2008 was crowned the event’s inaugural winner this month and its founder, artist Morten Traavik, was quoted saying that Cambodia was poised to be next year’s host. Rights activists and feminists have branded the pageant sexist and exploitative but Mr Traavik said it raises landmine awareness and empowers the participants. After a 30-year civil war, more than six million mines still litter Cambodia, the report said.
