Carnival Corporation today celebrates the delivery of its 100th ship. To mark the occasion, the company will offer a glass of champagne to their 227,000 passengers, in what is believed to be the largest-ever at-sea toast. Carnival Corporation comprises 10 cruise brands, including P&O Cruises Australia and Princess Cruises.
The 100th liner will be the 130,000-tonne Carnival Magic, which also becomes the 23rd ship for Carnival Cruise Lines.
Chairman & CEO of Carnival Corporation & plc, Micky Arison, said; “It is particularly meaningful that delivery of Carnival Corporation & plc’s 100th ship is for the Carnival Cruise Lines brand, which provided the foundation upon which Carnival Corporation & plc was established and ultimately grew into the largest cruise operator in the world with 10 global brands.”
Carnival Australia CEO Ann Sherry, added; “Australia and New Zealand travellers have played their part in the company’s dynamic growth and we’re delighted that our passengers can be part of this great celebration.”
The 3,690-passenger Carnival Magic will spend its inaugural season in Europe with a series of seven- to 12-day Mediterranean cruises operating from 1 May until 16 October 2011. Following a 16-day trans-Atlantic crossing, Carnival Magic will begin seven-day Caribbean cruises out of Texas on 14 November 2011.
