Carnival Cruise Lines has cancelled Carnival Splendor voyages for a week in January while the ship’s engine room is repaired. The cruise ship will stop sailing on 9 January 2011 and will re-enter service on 16 January. Carnival said it would protect any agent commission on the sailings and will provide a full refund of affected passengers’ cruise fare and air transportation costs. It will also issue a 25 percent discount on a future cruise. Splendor was towed to San Diego last week after a fire broke out on board. Carnival’s engineers and technicians are now investigating why the fire occurred. “We sincerely apologise to everyone who was scheduled to sail on these cancelled voyages and look forward to welcoming them aboard in the future,” said Gerry Cahilll, president and CEO of Carnival. “Now that we have a full technical team engaged in the assessment, we wanted to provide this information as quickly as possible.”
