Cathay Pacific to reach new modernisation milestone

Cathay still operates three A340s

Cathay Pacific’s fleet modernisation plan will take another major step forward in April 2017, when the airline retires its last remaining Airbus A340s.

The Hong Kong-based carrier currently operates three 265-seat A340-300 aircraft, but these will be replaced by the new A350-900 aircraft in the coming months.

This follows the recent retirement of Cathay’s fleet of Boeing 747-400s and means that the airline will cease operating all four-engined passenger jets.

Cathay has ordered a total of 35 A350s along with 21 new Boeing 777-9 aircraft, as it moves to overhaul its long-haul fleet.

The A340s will continue operating on routes to Bangkok and Taipei up until 30 April 2017.
