Cathay Pacific has become the first airline to confirm that it will operate from Singapore Changi Airport’s new Terminal 4 when it opens in 2017.
Changi Airport Group (CAG) confirmed today (30 April 2014) that the Hong Kong-based carrier will relocate to the new 800m² terminal once it opens, from its current base at T1. Passengers at T4 will be able to use a range of new facilities including self-service check-in kiosks and baggage drop facilities.
“Changi Airport is one of Cathay Pacific’s largest bases outside Hong Kong so we are very excited at this opportunity to offer a transformational on-ground product for our valued passengers,” said Wilson Yam, Cathay’s general manager for Southeast Asia.
“Operating at Changi Airport’s T4 offers us the perfect opportunity to bring self-service and automated options to more of our passengers, giving them more control over how they want to use their time at the airport.”
T4, which is designed to handle 16 million passengers per year, includes 21 aircraft stands with aerobridges, four of which are designed for wide-body aircraft.
Cathay has operated at Changi T1 since the airport opened in 1981 and now offers nine daily services between Singapore and Hong Kong, including one via Bangkok, plus four weekly services to Colombo.
