Cathay traffic steadies in February

Cathay Pacific Airways has released its traffic results for February 2011, with passenger demand showing a marginal 0.1% year-on-year rise. Strong growth in traffic on routes to and from Southeast Asia (+8.5%) and North America (+7.6%) was countered by a significant drop in demand on routes to and from China (-11.0%) and South Asia (-9.3%). The two carriers added 8.9% extra capacity during the month, leading to a sharp drop in load factors, which declined to 77.3%. In the first two months of the year, Cathay’s demand increased 3.6% with load factors averaging 79.4%.
