The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) will for the first time perform in Abu Dhabi as part of the revitalised Abu Dhabi Classics international concert series which runs until May 2015.
The orchestra will deliver two performances, including one on a floating stage on the Arabian Gulf. This marks the emirate’s celebrations to host the round-the-world Volvo Ocean Race fleet. Following this performance, the orchestra will perform at the Al Jahili Fort – a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Al Ain.
CBSO’s Abu Dhabi Corniche Breakwater concert will include Elgar’s Enigma Variations and Bruch’s Violin Concerto No 1, with Canadian violin soloist James Ehnes. The Al Jahili Fort performance will feature extracts from Holst’s The Planets and music by John Williams, as well as work of A R Rahman. The orchestra will play Williams’ compositions from film such as ET, Superman and Star Wars alongside music from Rahman’s Taal, Bombay and Lagaan.
