Vietnam’s central regions of Danang and Quang Nam are booming, according to statistics from the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism. Just over 200,000 foreign tourists visited Danang in the first six months 2008, a pace on target to beat last year’s 315,000 total arrivals by 30%. Meanwhile in neighbouring Quang Nam province 600,000 visitors have arrived in the first half of the year, compared to just over one million for the full year 2007
Christian de Boer, Director of Sales at Hoi An’s Nam Hai resort believes that the figures are finally showing central Vietnam’s potential. “The statistics clearly show that Danang and Central Vietnam are at last on the international tourism map” de Boer said, attributing the boost to “tremendous efforts” the Hoi An and Danang local governments have made in promoting the region. “The world is discovering Danang and the future looks bright,” he added.
