China announces 40-year pollution plan

China has announced a three-stage plan to curb pollution over the next 40 years, Xinhua has reported. The first stage of the plan will aim to achieve control over the emission of major pollutants by 2020. By the end of 2030, the emissions volume of all pollutants will be “under full control”, while environmental quality by the end of 2050 “should be compatible with people’s increasing quality”, according to authorities.The country’s Environmental Protection Minister, Zhou Shengxian, said; “China’s environmental pressure is bigger than any other country’s, and our problem in environmental resources is more outstanding than any other country’s. All these issues pose more difficulties for us to solve.”
