Airlines in China will cut their fuel surcharges by as much as 75% on domestic routes from 25 December, the Shanghai Daily has reported. Surcharges for routes shorter than 800km will be slashed to CNY20 (US$2.90) from the current CNY80, while for long-haul flights, the fees will decrease to CNY40 from CNY150, the newspaper quoted the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) as saying on Saturday.
Children and some disabled passengers will receive a 50% discount on the new, lower surcharges, while infants travelling will be exempt from the charges, the report added.
The move follows the NDRC’s lowering of domestic jet fuel prices.
