The Chinese government plans to invest US$22 billion to build more railways in Shanxi province, Xinhua has reported. The move, which will involve laying up to 2,000km of new track, is as part of efforts to ease congestion and promote domestic growth in the face of the global economic slowdown, the report said. Shanxi is China’s main coal-producing region.
