China plans huge urban rail investment

China is planning to invest more than CNY1 trillion (US$155 billion) in urban rail projects by 2015. The Beijing Morning Post reported that the country’s authorities are planning to develop 96 new urban rail lines covering 2,500km. As of 2010, 12 cities in mainland China had urban rail networks, comprising 48 lines with a total length of 1,395km. No specific details about the new projects were revealed.
