China Southern Airlines, Asia’s largest carrier by passenger numbers, made US$6.3 million from fuel-hedging last year according to a Bloomberg report. Quoting an unidentified airline source, Bloomberg said that China Southern closed all of its fuel-hedging positions in September.
The fuel-hedging gain contrasts with China Eastern Airlines and Air China, both of which are predicted to lose heavily on wrong-way fuel-hedging bets.
