China Southern Airlines is preparing to double its departures from Australia, with three nonstop flights per week from Melbourne to Guangzhou, and daily flights from Sydney in the peak Christmas - new year season.
Effective from Sunday, 26 October, the airline will introduce nonstop flights from Melbourne, replacing three via Sydney. It will also maintain its current five departures from Sydney, bringing to eight the total weekly flights from Australia.
Then from 02 December until 20 February, China Southern will increase to daily departures from Sydney. Coupled with the three nonstop flights from Melbourne, this will take to 10 the number of nonstop flights per week which the airline operates from Australia.
“Demand for travel to and within China is continuing to grow from both Sydney and Melbourne, and these changes meet that demand from both cities,” said James Liu, Regional Manager Australia for China Southern Airlines.
“Our new schedules for the Northern Winter period are designed to accommodate the growth in tourist and business traffic from Australia, as well as the seasonal peak in travel by members of the Chinese community,” said Mr Liu. “We also offer onward services to destinations throughout Asia, and beyond to Europe, the Middle East and Africa.”
From Melbourne, the new nonstop flights to Guangzhou will operate every Monday, Thursday and Saturday from 26 October 2009 until 25 March, 2010.
From Sydney, flights will depart every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 27 October until 01 December, 2009, then daily from 02 December until 20 February, when the five-flight schedule will resume until 27 March.
All China Southern flights from Australia are operated with Airbus A330-200 aircraft seating 264 passengers in a two-class cabin - 24 in Business Class and 240 in Economy. The schedule changes are subject to regulatory approval.
As a member of the SkyTeam global airline alliance, China Southern can also offer onward travel with partner airlines from China or other destinations. China Southern is one of 11 full member airlines of SkyTeam, which offers more than 16,700 flights per day to 905 destinations in 169 countries.
