China has banned lip-synching from the nation’s biggest TV show, held to celebrate Chinese New Year, according to a BBC report. The broadcasting regulator has ordered organisers to pick “real” singers for the CCTV Spring Festival Gala, which attracts hundreds of millions of viewers with comedy sketches and song-and-dance routines.
The move follows the controversy over China’s decision to allow a girl to lip-synch at the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics.
