China has announced that the Ming Dynasty-era section of the Great Wall is more than 2,551km longer than earlier thought. Xinhua reported that the finding is the result of a two-year investigation by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage (SACH) and State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping (SBSM), using GPS positioning systems, infrared range finder and other mapping technologies
The agencies now estimate the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) wall to be 8851.8km long, running from Liaoning province in the east, to Gansu province in the west.
