Airbus plans to make China the centre of its growth strategy as demand for aircraft in the country outpaces other regions. According to a Bloomberg report, carriers in mainland China are expected to order about 2,800 planes with 100+ seats over the next two decades. Airline traffic will expand more than 10% annually.
“Not only is it already the world’s second-biggest market but it probably has the most potential of any significant market in the world,” Airbus China President, Laurence Barron, was reported saying in an interview.
Airbus predicts Chinese airlines will account for 20 percent of all Airbus planes delivered in 2010, compared with 3.5% a decade ago, the report added. Airbus last year opened a factory in Tianjin, China, for final assembly of A320 jets.
