Chinese airlines say no to merger

ChinaEastern Airlines and its smaller rival Shanghai Airlines said they had notdiscussed a possible merger, playing down a media report on a possible tie-up.
Reutersquoted Shanghai Airlines as saying that neither it nor its state-run parent hadtaken any action on a major transaction that would be related to restructuringin the country’s aviation industry.
ChinaEastern, which has been seeking to sell a 24% stake to Singapore Airlines saidin a separate statement that it had not held talks on a possible tie-up withany other airlines, Reuters said.
