Chartered flights for Chinese tourists during the Songkran Thai New Year festival are expected to be halved this year, according to the Thai-Chinese Tourism Alliance Association. The Bangkok Post reported that Chinese tourists have still not regained confidence in Thailand, while the ongoing slump in travel is exacerbating the problem.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is reportedly offering a THB100,000 (US$2,800) prize to tour companies that can successfully bring in Chinese tourists on chartered flights during the Songkran and May Day festivals.
