Chinese tourists to Taiwan exceed daily limit

The number ofarriving Chinese visitors broke the 3,000 mark for the first time on Wednesday,reach 3,043, according to statistics released by the country’s Tourism Bureau,published in the Taiwan News.
According to an agreement signed by the two sides lastJune, Taiwanallows entry of a maximum of 3,000 Chinese tourists per day, although thearrivals had never before hit the daily limit. Tourism officials said theunrealised quotas from previous months can be used to accommodate the currentinflux of Chinese tourists.
The tourist surge was thought to be prompted by thetroubles in Thailand, withmany Chinese having changed their travel plans as a result of the unrest in Bangkok.
