The Chinese city of Chongqing plans to spend CNY20 billion (US$2.9 billion) over the next 11 years to add three runways at its international airport, Bloomberg reported.
Citing a South China Morning Post report, Bloomberg said the project would see the airport’s annual passenger capacity would rise six-fold to 60 million by 2020, to cope with the city’s rapid growth. The airport also plans to add another passenger terminal.
Chongqing’s airport was China’s eighth-busiest last year and is owned and operated by Capital Airports Holding Co, the report added.
