CNI announces ‘Distinguished Lecture’ series for 2010

Singapore, March 24, 2010 – The Cornell-Nanyang Institute of Hospitality Management (CNI) is pleased to announce the launch of the Dean’s Distinguished Lecture Series for 2010 from March 26 to May 7.
This annual lecture series hosts the most influential and accomplished leaders from every segment of the hospitality industry. Speakers impart valuable lessons and insights from their experiences and share views about successful management styles, possible career paths, critical industry-related issues, and qualities conducive to successful business leadership.
Kicking off the series is a lecture on March 26 by Mr Andrew Jones, guardian of Sanctuary Resorts. He will be speaking on ‘Responsible and sustainable tourism, the way it’s meant to be’, through which he will introduce key aspects of his career, discuss the impact of tourism on communities, and show examples of profitable social enterprises as models of tourism projects.
Other distinguished speakers will also be sharing pertinent insights into the lecture series. They are:
? Mr Gerald Lawless, executive chairman, Jumeirah Group. Lecture on April 9. Topic: ‘Going global: Challenges and opportunities’.
? Mr Choe Peng Sum, chief executive officer, Frasers Hospitality. Lecture on April 16. Topic: ‘The multi-faceted approach and strategy to growing a global business’.
? Ms Aw Kah Peng, chief executive, Singapore Tourism Board. Lecture on April 23. Topic: ‘Tourism development, Singapore style’.
? Mr Michael Ma, group chief executive officer, IndoChine Group of Bars, Restaurants, Clubs, Villas and Resorts. Lecture on April 30. Topic to be confirmed.
? Mr David Ling, managing director, HVS Asia Pacific. Lecture on May 7. Topic: ‘Appraising hotel real estate in a volatile market’.
Expected to attend the event are students undergoing the Master of Management in Hospitality (MMH) and Nanyang Business School courses, Singapore-based hospitality industry players, as well as potential candidates of CNI’s MMH, Professional Development Program and General Managers Program.
