Luxury French small ship operator Compagnie du Ponant has ordered a new ship from Italian Fincantieri shipyard.
The ship, which is due to launch in spring 2015, will join the four ships which currently sit in Ponant’s fleet: Le Ponant, Le Boreal, L’Austral and Le Soleal. Current details state that the ship will sail Alaska during the summer and Australia and New Zealand during the winter, which means the vessel will be fitted with the latest green technology as the Environmental Control Areas will be in force by then.
“For Compagnie du Ponant this order is another step towards the future that proves the efficacy of our business model,” stresses CEO Jean-Emmanuel Sauvée. “It is a business model fully supported by Bridgepoint, which bought Compagnie du Ponant in September 2012 and has confirmed its confidence in the product by investing in this new ship.

The line, which celebrated its 25th anniversary this year carries around 20,000 passengers a year and has an annual revenue of around EUR85 million.
