The University’s study covering more than 400 travel managers – conducted together with Amadeus – showed companies could save nine percent on airline ticket spend if they used self-booking tools.
“These figures have been further supported by a survey conducted on more than 400 organisations across Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific that found companies of all sizes stood to benefit from SBT usage, and recommended its large-scale adoption,” said David Brett, President, Amadeus Asia Pacific.
But the usage of such tools have not become as widespread, managing to capture juts 13 percent of business travel worldwide , according to a study last year by the Institute of Travel Management.
Brett said all companies stand to benefit from SBTs and the way forward is to mandate its use among company staff.
According to the Cranfield report, companies that implemented a compulsory approach experienced a 24 percent increase in their SBT adoption rate and reaped cost savings.
“Companies can consider instilling a self-service mentality in their employees. Organisations with a flat leadership structure in place and shorter reporting lines tend to have quicker adoption rates of this cost-saving tool,” Brett said.
