Crocodiles are four times more likely to attack drunken locals swimming at night than unwary tourists, a Courier Mail report said.
Most of the 19 victims of croc attacks - with five fatalities - in Queensland, Australia, since 1985 were locals (80%) compared with overseas visitors.
The report said Queensland crocodile expert Dr Mark Read had outlined his research into the disturbing trends of “humans doing stupid things” around crocodiles.
The Townsville-based scientist revealed the winner of “the most stupid act” in croc country was a man who was attacked in 1997 while swimming drunk, at night, with his dog.
