Darwin International Airport has made changes to its designated smoking areas in response to public feedback. Smoking inside the terminal, including the balconies, was banned on 2 January 2011, to comply with new government anti-smoking laws. The airport then established two temporary smoking areas on the walkways between the terminal and the public car park.
However, the airport has received feedback from people wanting smoke-free access to the terminal, CEO Ian Kew said.
“As a temporary measure, the airport will now make one of the walkways a smoking area and the other a non-smoking area while a dedicated smoking area is created,” Kew said.
The smoking and no smoking areas will be marked by signs. A dedicated smoking area, away from the walkways, is due to be finished in April 2011.
