Darwin International Airport in Australia’s Northern Territory has released its “Minor Variation to Approved Major Development Plan (MDP)” document for public comment. An MDP is the development consent process for privatised airports. In 2009, the Australian government approved an MDP for the proposed terminal expansion project. Due to changes in the scope of the project, a Minor Variation to the MDP document is required to be submitted for approval under the Airports Act 1996.Darwin International Airport CEO Ian Kew said that the Minor Variation to the MDP was an exciting step towards confirming final design aspects of the terminal expansion project at the airport.”The Minor Variation to the MDP was required due to changes in the scope and configuration of the terminal expansion project. The expansion of the footprint is now planned for both ends of the terminal building, whereas the initial plan only allowed for expansion at the eastern end,” he said. The amendment to the terminal expansion footprint is the only change to the original MDP which was approved in 2009.Details of the invitation to public comment will be published in the Northern Territory News tomorrow, the Darwin International Airport website and its Facebook page.Construction of the $40 million terminal expansion project is anticipated to commence in the first half of 2012.To download a copy of the Minor Variation to MDP document visit www.darwinairport.com.au
