Darwin convention centre ready for 2008

TheCentre recently hosted some of Australia’sleading professional conference organizers to increase awareness of the
newconvention centre. Bryan Holliday, Managing Director of ICMS Australasia said, “Ican certainly see Darwinbecoming anintegral part of the national and international conference circuits. Withincreasing air capacity, good accommodation infrastructureand a world class convention centre operated by seasoned professionals, they’redoing all the right things.”
ChrisBoundy, Managing Director of SAPMEA said the new venue occupied a superbwaterfront setting and was designed to take full advantage of its surrounds sothat delegates could appreciate the uniqueness of the location.
“Iwas impressed with the apparent level of support for the Darwin ConventionCentre’s team from both the industry sectors and the Territory Government.” Openingin mid 2008, the A$1 billion centre is an integral part of the city’s newwaterfront development precinct.It will seat 1,500 delegates in tiered plenary hall, a total of 12 meeting roomsand 4,000sqm of exhibition space.
Oneof the centre’s distinctive design feature is the impressive floor to ceilingglass walls that offer panoramic views of
thewave lagoon, parklands and Australia’slargest harbour. The Darwin Convention Centre is operated by Ogden IFC, one
ofAsia Pacific’s largest venue management companies. Ogden IFC also operatesconvention centres in Cairns,Brisbane and
Kuala Lumpur.
