Deadly earthquake hits Java

A powerful earthquake has struck off the Indonesian island of Java, killing at least 35 people, the BBC has reported. More than 300 have been injured and it is feared the death toll will rise after landslide triggered by the quake buried homes. The 7.0-magnitude quake struck at around 3pm yesterday local time near the town on Tasikmalaya, and was felt in the major cities of Bandung, Jakarta and Surabaya.
