Delta Air Lines has continued its Asian expansion with the launch of a new service connecting the US city of Seattle with Shanghai.
The new trans-Pacific service took off for the first time on Monday 17 June 2013 and will now operate daily between Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and Shanghai’s Pudong International Airport, using a 208-seat Boeing 767-300ER aircraft.
Flights will depart the northwest US city each day at 1430, arriving in Shanghai at 1755 the following day. The return leg will then depart Pudong airport at 1220, getting back into Seattle at 0850 the same day, having cross the International Date Line.
“Delta’s new Shanghai service is the latest step toward building Seattle into a world-class Asian gateway,” said Richard Anderson, Delta’s chief executive officer. “Seattle’s strong business and cultural ties to Asia as well as geographic location make it a natural departing point for flights across the Pacific.”
Shanghai becomes the latest destination served from Seattle, Delta’s ‘Asian gateway’, following Beijing, Osaka, Tokyo Narita and most recently, Tokyo Haneda. This summer the airline will operate more than 45 daily flights to 18 global destinations from Seattle.
