The world’s largest airline, Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines, will expand its operations in the Middle East this year, Gulf News has reported.
Currently serving four regional destinations – Dubai, Kuwait, Cairo and Amman – the airline carrier has announced plans to increase its Atlanta-Cairo service to five times per week, in response to increasing business travel, the report stated.
“The Middle East is an integral part of our global airline and our aim is to retain our position in the region. We are quite aggressive with our expansion and will hold to that position in the near-term,” Manoj Kuriakose, the airline’s Commercial Manager in Dubai, was quoted saying.
Delta will begin taking receiving an order of eight Boeing 777-200LRs this year. With deliveries set to be completed by 2010, Gulf News reported. This is in addition to 17 Boeing 757-200s, which are planned to boost short-haul international routes.
Speaking of future additions of regional destinations, Kuriakose was reported saying that he “cautiously optimistic”.
