Desert X AlUla 2026 opens in Saudi Arabia

Desert X AlUla 2026, the fourth edition of the international open-air biennial exhibition, has officially opened in the ancient oasis of AlUla, Saudi Arabia. Organised by Arts AlUla in collaboration with Desert X, the event showcases site-responsive earthworks, sculptures, and installations by a diverse group of Saudi and international artists. The exhibition, running until 28 February, is a key highlight of the AlUla Arts Festival.

The 2026 edition features 11 acclaimed artists whose works are deeply connected to AlUla's distinctive environment. From kinetic sculptures to sound-based explorations, each piece reflects a wide spectrum of ideas, materials, and traditions. Curated by Wejdan Reda and Zoé Whitley, with artistic direction by Neville Wakefield and Raneem Farsi, the exhibition explores the theme "Space Without Measure," inspired by Kahlil Gibran.

Hamad Alhomiedan, Director of Arts and Creative Industries at the Royal Commission for AlUla, stated, "At Desert X AlUla 2026, audiences will engage with art that deeply converses with AlUla's unique landscapes and rich heritage." The exhibition is part of a broader effort to transform AlUla into a major global destination for contemporary art, with future projects like Wadi AlFann, a permanent land art valley set to open from 2028.

Participating artists include Sara Abdu, Mohammad Alfaraj, Mohammed AlSaleem, Tarek Atoui, and others, each contributing unique artworks that resonate with AlUla's natural and cultural heritage.
