Letters continue to pour to the local media on dishonest retailers fleecing tourists.
A recent one by Muhammad Adam Mohamad Yazid to The New Paper spoke of shop in Lucky Plaza on Orchard Road which cheated a tourist by overcharging on a prepaid phone card. Similar dishonest practices have been reported in places such as Sim Lim Square, a popular IT mall.
“Something must be done to stop this demeaning and utterly despicable practice of swindling tourists and foreigners,” Adam said in the letter.
The report added that the Consumer Association of Singapore had also come across many complaints against retailers in Sim Lim Square and Lucky Plaza.
A Case spokesman was quoted saying that the complaints involved overcharging, misrepresentation, aggressive sales tactics and failure to honour agreements.
