Australia researchers fear that tourists of dolphin-watching trips could be harming the mammals, news.com.au has reported. A study is underway in Port Stephens, New South Wales, to count the number of bottlenose dolphins and assess whether they are affected by sightseeing cruises and other human interaction.
Whale and Dolphin Watch spokesperson, Frank Future, suggested private vessels were the real problem, particularly speedboats.
“Speed is the killer inside the bay to most wild marine animals,” Future said.
