Dubai has retained its luxury status with UK travellers despite the negative press it has received, according to results of a survey sent to ABTA members. Commissioned by Dubai-based agency Insignia, the survey found that 90% of travel agents and tour operators had seen no change in the number of bookings to Dubai and the majority agreed that it was a luxury destination. Concerns had been raised for the future of UK travellers to the emirate after the strict attitude a British woman faced for inappropriate behaviour. “It is highly encouraging to find that tourists continue to recognise Dubai as an attractive and popular destination and that it has not dented our reputation as a luxury holiday getaway,” said Insignia Managing Director Gaurav Sinha. Reasons to visit Dubai included its beaches, weather and shopping. Over 70% of respondents agreed that close proximity to a shopping mall was an important factor when choosing a hotel. Jumeirah Beach Hotel was judged the more popular hotel and Jumeirah Emirates Tower the most popular business property.
