Dubai has retained its luxury status with UK travellers despite the negative press it has received, according to results of a survey sent to ABTA members. Commissioned by Dubai-based agency Insignia, the survey found that 90% of travel agents and tour operators had seen no change in the number of bookings to Dubai and the majority agreed that it was a luxury destination. Beaches, the weather and shopping were the main reasons for British people to visit Dubai and 70% of respondents agreed that close proximity to a shopping mall was an important factor when choosing a hotel. Most travellers booked their holidays one to three months in advance and almost half of bookings made were as a result of emails and html newsletters that they received. Business travellers prioritised the location, wi-fi access and value for money of a hotel when going to the emirate. “We feel our report to be pertinent because it provides us with an unbiased, expert view on Dubai, both in terms of how it is perceived from a tourism angle and how we are regarded generally. It is highly encouraging to find that, inspite of negative coverage in the international press, tourists continue to recognise Dubai as an attractive and popular destination and that it has not dented our reputation as a luxury holiday getaway,” said Insignia Managing Director Gaurav Sinha.
Concerns had been raised for the future of UK travellers to the emirate after the strict attitude a British woman faced for inappropriate behaviour.
