Dubai Shopping Festival to boost city spending

Runninguntil 15 February, this year’s festival will see an investment of AED75 million(US$20.4 million), Laila Suhail, the event’s Chief Executive told Gulf News.
“This year’s DSF cameduring a challenging time with the financial crisis, and the conflict in Gaza. DSF is coming in aseason where everyone is looking forward and we are trying to maximise itsimpact for the retail sector,” Suhail said.
DSF2009 will see strong participation of 40 shopping malls and over 6,000 retailoutlets offering discounts on products.
The32-day long extravaganza will bring a total of 150 events, with new events suchas the Chinese Circus, and festivities at new venues such as The Walk, JumeirahBeach Residences and Jumeirah Beach Road.
Theoffers during this shopping festival, in addition to the retail promotions,include discounted hotel rates of up to 60%. Eventsponsor, Emirates Airline, will also provide 15% discounton ticket prices.
“Allthe sectors are working together on this,” Suhail said.
Lastyear the 32-day DSF saw consumer expenditure reach AED10 billion and visitornumbers hit 3.2 million, the report said.
