The Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association (APTRA) sees the move as a breakthrough, as they have been concerned about the negative impact of security restrictions on duty-free sales at Asian airports.
“The EU decision is extremely positive as it will help expedite the harmonisation process,” said APTRA board member Rakhita Jayawardena.
Meanwhile, Manila has lifted its total ban on liquids, aerosols and gels in carry-on luggage and adopted the region-wide practice of allowing LAGs to be carried on board.
