EC3 Global has developed a new set of environmental standards for the spa industry.
The company, which operates the EarthCheck certification programme, has now unveiled the ‘Spa Benchmarking Initiative’ – a new set of standards spa operators can work towards to ensure their business is sustainable.
The initiative measures spas’ operational efficiency in several key areas, including water and energy consumption, waste recycling, use of pesticides and chemical products, staff wellness and commitment to the local community. Spas will be assessed and measured against an industry baseline, with EarthCheck certification being awarded to those spas that match or exceed these standards.
“The ability to benchmark the performance of the spa sector is less to do about giving them a logo and more about delivering the industry with a mechanism to demonstrate their ongoing sustainability as an industry,” said Andre Russ, vice president of sales at EarthCheck.
EarthCheck has already developed guidelines for more than 30 industry sectors, including hotels and resorts.
