Budget carrier easyJet launched its first service to Brussels from the UK yesterday. The new route, which provides direct access to the Capital of the European Union from Liverpool, has been launched as part of the carrier’s promise to offer more for business travellers. easyJet’s UK general manager, Paul Simmons, was joined by Brian Simpson, MEP for the North West of England and Chairman of the European Parliament’s Transport Committee, at Liverpool John Lennon Airport to launch the new six-times-weekly. “By introducing a low-fares service to Brussels we are providing affordable access to the Capital of Europe,” said Paul Simmons. “The launch of our first UK route to Brussels reflects our commitment to providing business travellers with the broadest choice of destinations at the lowest possible fares.” Brian Simpson added: “The EU broke down the monopoly in the aviation market, giving customers a greater choice of airports, carriers and new routes. This move will also generate an influx of business and leisure travellers to the Belgian capital and the North West and bring much needed economic benefits. I’m sure this new route will be a great success.”
